The crickets are deafening. People always talk about how they go to the country for quiet, but so far she hadn't found any. There are twigs and grass poking her in the face. There is a root near the foot of her sleeping bag that she kept knocking her ankles on. She wants to hate all of it. But above her there is a piece of black, gossamer cloth letting brilliant points of light slip through and if she looks at them for more than a few minutes she forgets to hate. She merely reaches forward. She begins to want.

I wanted to comment because last month, you posted what point on the Kinsey scale your characters were on, and I posted a comment about my own. Welp, this was before NaNo:


I don't see Shannon actively searching for another guy. He has Ryan and their very complicated and fucked up friendship/relationship thingie. He says he's never been in love before, even with Ryan, and he's not interested in being in love (doesn't trust it and unabashedly fucks around on any short-lived relationship he's ever been in), so he tries to distance himself from most situations like that. Shannon's probably a 2, even though he likes to think he's a 3.

Ryan's had girlfriends but he's not sure he's ever been in love with any of them. All relationships he's had have been heterosexual, but he's known for-like-ever-ever that he's got a thing for dudes. Except for Shannon: he's in love with Shannon and Shannon likes to pretend he doesn't know it. Ryan's probably a 4 and way more likely to go after other men.


LOL because, well, now it's NaNo:


Shannon is a 3. Didn't even lose his virginity until after he was 21, only because there was a debacle at his 21st birthday party with his flaky girlfriend. Ended up with her again 10 years later (because I am a boring fuck and didn't feel like coming up with a brand new character in the middle of NaNo) and accidentally knocked her up. He's actually in love with Ryan, but it's unspoken, but definitely requited, and somehow they both know it.

Ryan is gay. Gold star, vag-virgin gay. 5.5, maybe only because in high school someone in a new wave band wore lipstick and he got a boner. idk. LOL
