NaNoWriMo started last night at midnight and it was great! I actually was out at a write-in/count down event last night, which means I got about 1500 words in before I finally made it home and collapsed into my bed. I feel vaguely accomplished and stoked about the possibility of getting more done tonight. My final sentence last night at 1:01AM read: He wiped his prints off the gun, removed his sneakers, and went back downstairs in his stockinged feet to retrieve the pizzas.
For those of you who are new, last year I did a Picture Prompt A Day and people seemed to really enjoy having those to think about if not write to, so I'm going to do it again this year. If you want to play along, merely look at the picture below and write something to it. You can share it here in the comments if you like, or you can hold on to it, it's up to you. Let's get those creative juices flowing, eh? Even if you're not doing Nano. You can look at the prompts from last year at this tag.

GO GO GO, GUYS.

Date: 2012-11-01 05:16 pm (UTC)This part of my novel takes place in NY not Chicago but still. Cities.
Date: 2012-11-01 05:00 pm (UTC)Even though they do have to make some personal sacrifices in the process.
It was obvious that they were married, or at least living together in sin. They had a kid. They went to PTA meetings and had babysitters and went to the grocery store, but they weren’t exactly groping each other in the grocery store.
Well. Phil would grope Brian all the time if he could get away with it, but the store has cameras and they don’t need to get arrested any time soon.
They did get odd looks and the occasional dirty look now and then, but for the most part nobody did anything to indicate that they were the odd men out in the neighborhood.
Unfortunately their subtleness meant that sometimes when they were out together, usually on a date, they would get hit on, despite wearing wedding rings.
Sometimes the person would continue to hit on them until Phil would get exasperated and grab Brian’s hand until they got the point and left them alone.
It was easier when they brought (baby) along with them. Apparently to other people babies were more of an indicator of a serious relationship than marriage.
Brian and Phil had been serious about each other even before they realized that they were in love and their commitment just got stronger each passing year.
Going into the city sort of makes things easier for them.
Well. Made things easier for Phil really. Because he liked to show his family off. Liked to hold Brian’s in public and not have to worry as much about it. Liked showing off their beautiful girl and showing everyone how fucking incredibly lucky he was.
Also they tended to dress up to go to the city because they were going to museums and plays and dinner and Brian always managed to look even more handsome dressed up in wool jackets and pressed shirts.
Phil liked that he didn’t have to keep his hands to himself because Brian was irresistible.
Despite his grumbling, Brian didn’t really mind putting up with Phil’s ridiculously overprotective and showy displays of affection because he knew that it meant that Jeff still loved him enough to want to show him off. He liked that someone was proud of him, of what they had together.

Date: 2012-11-01 05:15 pm (UTC)You should just think up what they dressed the baby as for Halloween and then call it that. Might I suggest Bane (https://twitter.com/NathanFillion/status/263823409526501376)?

Date: 2012-11-02 01:58 am (UTC)"We are," Charles says, ignoring the triteness of the statement. "I wanted us to be somewhere quiet."
Erik says nothing. He stares out at the water. It's not a particularly windy day, but so close to the water, with no building surrounding them to catch the wind, Erik feel like he might be blown away. He feels like he could fly over the buildings. He feels like he could fly out of this place.
He stops himself from grabbing onto Charles' hand to make sure that he doesn't attempt the same thing.
"What would you do," Charles asks, not looking at him, "if I kissed you?"
There are half a dozen answers that Erik could give, that he should give. Charles is the son of a wealthy politician, the poster boy for the new face of the mutant rights movement, the kind of movement that wants equal rights, sure, but not too quickly. Wouldn't want to upset anyone. Charles needs to stay clean and polished and above the board. Charles is casually arrogant and frustratingly naive and getting involved with Charles will mean all sorts of rules about what sorts of parties he can go to and what sorts of opinions he can have in public.
What Erik says is, "I think, if I jumped, I could fly."
Charles does look at him then, slowly. "What?" he asks.
"Between the wind and the metal of the buildings--I think I could pick out the right fields. I think I could fly above the city."
"What are you saying?" Charles asks. He sounds so tired, so confused, so desperate to understand, as if understanding Erik is the only thing that matters.
Come to think of it, it's not the first time Charles has sounded like that.
"I'm saying, don't jump without me," Erik says. And then he takes Charles by the hand and kisses him.
